Job description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to provide dedicated support to a female patient managing diabetes and cancer.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in caregiving and hold a caregiver certification. This role requires a blend of medical knowledge, emotional support, and practical assistance to ensure the patient’s comfort and well-being.
This is a full time and permanent role – to be filled as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage blood sugar levels, administer insulin or other prescribed diabetes medications as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Provide first aid and recognize signs of medical emergencies, contacting healthcare professionals when needed.
- Help with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Prepare nutritious, diabetes-friendly meals aligned with dietary guidelines.
- Ensure proper hydration and monitor food intake to manage the patient’s health effectively.
- Offer companionship, emotional encouragement, and a positive presence to reduce stress and promote mental well-being.
- Support the patient during medical appointments, ensuring they understand treatment plans and healthcare recommendations.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment, including light housekeeping and laundry.
- Organize medications and medical supplies for easy access and safety.
- Keep detailed records of the patient’s health status, treatments, and any significant changes.
- Communicate effectively with family members, healthcare providers, and other involved parties.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience as a caregiver, preferably with patients managing chronic illnesses like diabetes and cancer.
- Certification in caregiving or nursing assistance.
- Knowledge of diabetes management, including blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration.
- Understanding of cancer care and treatment protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
