Description of the Specialized Nanny profession
A specialized nanny is an experienced caregiver who works with children suffering from mental, visual, auditory, motor, developmental, and/or physical disorders.
Specialized nannies work with children of all ages, taking care of their daily needs (organizing activities, accompanying them to school, whether mainstream or specialized, preparing meals, and assisting with mealtime, providing educational and medical support in collaboration with the family and specialists).
Specialized nannies hold degrees in psychology or education from specialized centers and have experience working with children with behavior disorders, autism, intellectual disabilities, Rett syndrome, Asperger’s syndrome, or other disorders.
Role of a Specialized Nanny:
- Take the necessary time to understand the children’s daily routines
- Bring expertise and knowledge to children with disabilities
- Demonstrate listening skills and empathy to take the best care of the children
- Assure parents that their child is in good hands

Responsibilities of a Specialized Nanny:
- Take care of a disabled child in the absence of their parents
- Organize appropriate developmental and playful activities for the child’s age and disability
- Supervise and oversee children
- Prepare engaging games
- Prepare meals and assist with mealtime
- Accompany the child to medical appointments (with or without parents)
